Spanish giants’ Real Madrid’s recent surge could be slowed by injuries to key players after Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema had to be withdrawn with injuries in the Sunday win over Sporting Gijon.
Bale scored the opener on the seventh minute and set up another before limping off ahead of the break and never returned in the second half while Benzema was withdrawn with 25 minutes remaining after a collision with team mate James Rodriguez left him with a foot injury.
The Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane confirmed Benzema, who scored twice in the 5 – 1 win had a knock though he did not suggest it was a serious scare.
“What Karim has is a knock,” he said in the post match briefings.
As for Bale, this is the third time he is suffering a calf injury and it will be a big concern for the club. Zidane said they will be waiting for the scan report.
“Bale’s (injury) is more complicated. Let’s wait for the scan but we hope it’s nothing serious,” he stated.
Ronaldo and Benzema are La Liga’s leading marksmen this season with 16 goals apiece.
