After grinding out a 2-1 vcitory over Granada on Sunday away from home, the Zinedine Zidane led Rael Madrid side are now unbeaten with four wins and one draw since the former France international took over from Rafa Benitez.
Granada gave an excellent account of themselves against the team from the capital but were left without anything to show for their efforts as Real Madrid ran away with maximum points thanks to Luka Modric.
Reacting to his side’s victory on Sunday, Zidane said it was essential to fight in every game and that he was impressed by the attitude of all of the players.
“I will focus on the win and the three points, which were very important for us. We have to think that we are up against a team. When we play away we face a side and their fans. It is normal for it to be harder than at home.
“We have to battle for every game and I am happy with the attitude of all the players. It was tough to get the win because it is a difficult pitch. The opponents have good players and make things difficult. That is football and we are not going to win every game easily.” Zidane stated.
Real Madrid match winner Luka Modric whose superb effort from outside the area inside the final five minutes proved decisive on the night said;
“I’m sure it has been one of my best goals and it proved decisive. I’m very happy to have scored the goal and with the team’s performance. The manager said before the game that I have to shoot more and in the end I’ve scored that goal. We’ve had ups and downs, we suffered as a team and in the end we won, that was really important.
“You can’t expect to score lots of goals in every game, football isn’t like that. Today we showed character and we created a lot of clear chances but we didn’t score and that’s the difference. Two goals away from home is very good. We can still improve a lot defensively as well as in attack, but physically we’re stronger and I’m sure we are going to play better in the coming games.” Modric told the Real Madrid official website.
Also speaking after the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes encounter, a delighted Galacticos skipper Sergio Ramos said;
It was quite a closely fought game against a Granada side that put more pressure on in the second half than in the first. We had some chances to seal the game but they did not end with goals and things got difficult for us. The team kept trying and a great goal from Modric allows us to take away the three points. It was not a great game but we have achieved our aim of getting another three points”.
“We were a little imprecise, losing more balls than usual. That pushed us back. People have the last image of the side, pushing up and keeping the ball in the opponent’s half. We did not see that so much today. However, there are positive conclusions, we will try to keep improving and maintain stability, not only at the Bernabéu.” Ramos said.
