Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo netted a brace as his Real Madrid side stayed third on the La Liga standings with a 3 – 1 win over Real Sociedad on Wednesday 30 December at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
It was not an all good evening for Ronaldo as he missed a first half penalty, firing high on the 23rd minute after Real Madrid earned a penalty from Yuri Berchiche’s foul on Karim Benzema.
He however made amends for the miss on the 42nd minute from the spot after Yuri handled the ball in the box. The lead however lasted just until the 49th minute as Sociedad sub Bruma equalized with an angled finish.
However, Ronaldo volleyed home on the 67th minute to restore Real Madrid’s lead and Lucas Vasquez turned home Gareth Bale’s low cross for the third goal.
The final game for Real Madrid in a disappointing 2015 was never an easy one for manager Rafa Benitez as the Spaniard was booed ahead of kick off and also when making a substitution in the game later on.
He can only hope for a better start to 2016 with all the possibilities pointing at the sack should the year start badly for him.
