Real Madrid put behind thee the disappointment of being expelled from the Copa Del Rey over use of an ineligible player to thump visiting Getafe 4 – 1 in the La Liga clash staged at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid on Saturday 5 December.
Karim Benzema, who has lately been in the media for not so good reasons was outstanding in the game, netting twice to lead Madrid past the visitors as Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo got a goal apiece.
Benzema started the rout very early, with a goal on the fourth minute after receiving Pepe’s assist and he was on the mark again on the 16th minute with a goal off Gareth Bale’s pass.
Gareth Bale then turned scorer on the 35th minute with Ronaldo providing the assist before the Portuguese star got his name on the score sheet on the 38th minute off Toni Kroos’ pass.
Getafe pulled one goal back on the 70th minute courtesy of Alexis Delgado but it proved to be nothing more of a consolation as Madrid went on to bag all the three points on offer.
With the win, Real Madrid closes in on leaders Barcelona who are three points to the better, on 33 points but with a game to play.
