Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos has stated that the team still has a lot to play for despite the loss to Atletico Madrid that saw them slip to 12 points adrift of league leaders Barcelona in the race for the La Liga title.
Antoine Griezman scored the lone goal that condemned Real Madrid to the fourth loss of the season and made it extremely difficult for the team to catch up with Barca and Atletico and speaking to the club’s official website, Ramos has termed this a hard time for the team.
With the league seemingly slipping away, Ramos says they can still play for the Champions League, which presents the only realistic chance at silverware after earlier being kicked out of the Copa Del Rey.
“This is definitely a difficult moment due to the situation. La Liga is practically out of our reach and people want to see us win. When results and targets are not achieved, people react in that way”.
“At the end of the day, everyone tries to perform at their maximum level and as captain I feel proud of every single teammate. We all try to help in the best way possible and sometimes things to do not turn out well. The idea is to be united. The season is still wide open, we have the Champions League ahead of us and La Liga is still not over,” he said.
