Tottenham Hotspurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is elated at the capture of Victor Wanyama, who on Thursday 23 June completed the move from Southampton, signing a five year deal reported to be in the region of 11m pounds.
The coach and Wanyama reunite after two years together at St. Mary’s and the Argentine has described Wanyama as the perfect signing for his team, terming it a great opportunity that he could get him.
He feels Wanyama’s powerful displays as a defensive midfielder can be great for Tottenham and in his interview as quoted on the club’s official website, tottenhamhotspur.com, he said the Harambee Stars skipper will greatly improve his squad.
“I know Victor very well because we signed him from Celtic to bring him to Southampton three years ago and I think he’s a player that can improve our squad and can help us for the next few years.
“He’s a very strong midfielder who is a holding midfielder but can play free and can play very well with the ball.
“He’s powerful and I think he’s a perfect player for us. I think it’s very important – when you have the possibility to sign a player like him it’s a good opportunity for us,” he noted.
Wanyama featured in 85 matches for Southampton and a bonus for Tottenham is that he has Champions League experience having featured in Europe’s elite club tournament while at Celtic.
