Tottenham Hotspurs managed their first win of the season, a 1 – 0 victory over Crystal Palace served by a late Victor Wanyama goal and manager Mauricio Pochettino has lauded the Kenyan international for his exploits in the game.
Having served with Wanyama in their time together at Southampton, the Argentine manager stated he has never doubted Wanyama’s abilities, and especially when it comes to scoring from set pieces.
The manager was also glad that he can get in his team a variety of scorers to help the team and he termed the first win of the season a massive one, saying it eases the pressure on them at these early stages of the season.
“We know Victor very well and he can score at set-pieces, he’s strong. It’s good that different players can score, not just our strikers, but our midfielders as well and they can help the team.”
“It’s very important for us, a massive victory. It’s true it’s at the beginning but it’s always important to put that pressure away. I remember last season we needed to work hard to get the first victory, now it’s important to follow up in the week and try to be ready to compete next week,” he told the club’s official website.
