The praises for Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane have been flowing from various quarters after leading the team to the 11th UEFA Champions League title in the 5 – 3 win on penalties over Atletico Madrid on Saturday 28 May.
The latest to heap praise on the Frenchman is club president Florentino Perez who termed Zidane a very important figure for the Spanish giants.
With the win Zidane became only the seventh man to win the title both as a player and manager and Perez, reacting to the win said Zidane went to the match with the same mentality as he did in 2001 as he guided the team to win it.
“Zidane has been very important for Real Madrid. He told me the same thing he told me back in 2001: ‘I got it, president.’ The players will go to Cibeles tonight to celebrate.
“Every season is difficult. We fought right until the final whistle. The Champions League is in Madrid’s DNA. It is the most important competition for us.”
On Ronaldo he added: “The whole world knows that I want Cristiano to stay at Madrid for the rest of his life. He is one of the pillars of this club.”
“I feel very proud to be president of Real Madrid right now,” he said.
