If Pep Guardiola’s time at Bayern Munich would be judged by his performance in Europe, the Spaniard would be judged a failure, especially now that his team has been dumped out by Atletico Madrid.
Bayern’s race in Europe crashed at home despite a 2 – 1 win over the Spanish side effectively meaning his stay in Bavaria will end without the coveted European title as he heads to Manchester City next season.
The coach speaking after the match admitted he feels it for the players after a great game yielded a goal less to see them eliminated and in defence of his tenure at the club, he said he enjoyed his time there.
“We did everything we could. We missed one more goal in the game today. That was all. It hurts, of course. Every time it hurts. But my track record in Munich is not up to me to decide.
“I was very happy here. I worked for the players, not for a track record.”
“That is football. You can play better and still be eliminated I feel sorry for my players because they deserved the very best.” He said.
