Manuel Pellegrini has described Manchester City fans as one of the best set in the world even as the Chilean stated that he will “never forget” the club’s supporters after taking charge of his last home match.
Outgoing Pellegrini, who will be replaced by Pep Guardiola this summer, did not get the befitting parting result he wanted on Sunday as Arsenal twice pegged back his side to draw at the Etihad.
The draw comes four days after City lost to Real Madrid in their first Champions League semi-final and now the door is open for Manchester United to sneak ahead of City into the top four if they win their last two matches of the season.
“Not winning this game is not the way we wanted to finish the season,” Pellegrini said. “We want to qualify for next year’s Champions League.
“For me it’s been three wonderful, unforgettable years. Thanks to the fans for all, I will never forget you. Don’t change, because this team needs you and I’m sure next year you will do well in all competitions.”
Aside making history taking City to the semi finals of the Champions League for the first time in their history, Pellegrini won three trophies – the Premier League and two League Cups – during his three-year reign.
