Manchester City are set to enjoy a big boost in their backline as club boss, Manuel Pellegrini on Wednesday revealed that the team captain Vincent Kompany is fit for the Boxing Day clash against Sunderland.
The Belgian international has missed a lot of football this season with a calf problem, but has returned to training following the team’s 2-1 defeat at Arsenal on Monday.
Pablo Zabaleta and Fernando have also been declared fit for the Premier League clash against the Black Cats, but Samir Nasri is still on the sidelines.
“The injury situation is better. Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta and Fernando are all fit and training normally,” Pellegrini told reporters.
“We’ll see the starting XI on Saturday – I have not decided on the team for the game yet. Only Samir Nasri is not fit.”
It has not been the been the best for Citizens who started the season like a house on fire wining all their first six games but have now already lost five league games this season, but remain third in the table, six points behind the surprise leaders Leicester City.
