Orlando Pirates training gates officially opened for the New Year on Sunday, after their much needed rest due to their Caf Confederation extra fixture load.
The Rand Stadium was a hive of activity on Sunday morning as the players returned from their December holidays to start preparations for the resumption of the 2015/16 season. They’ve been keeping fit over the festive season anyway, but the lack of games in December due to the U23 Afcon, will refresh the players for their task of moving up the table.
Orlando Pirates have never finished a season outside the top eight since the start of the Premier Soccer League in 1996. The Sea Robbers are currently in 13th position – a whole 15 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns after ten matches. Eric Tinkler will have it all to do, in order to get back to the top half of the table. First up for the Buccaneers are two home clashes at Orlando Stadium.
With the holiday season now over, it is time for Orlando Pirates to knuckle down to some serious business for the year ahead. The Buccaneers will kick-off the new year with a tough encounter against Platinum Stars on January 9 followed by another home clash against TUKS four days later.
