Relegation-wary Maritzburg United find themselves set to face an Orlando Pirates side determined to get back to winning ways after their 2-1 loss to Platinum Stars on Monday.
The Buccaneers will host Maritzburg at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night, in what will be the third last match of the season for both teams.
Eric Tinkler will be looking for more intensity from his men, the Pirates coach feeling that his side were off the pace at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Monday night.
“I told the players before the match that this game would be all about individual battles and we didn’t win them, particularly in the first half, we were always second to the ball; they were winning every single header and second ball. The goal came from us defending the corner well, but then reacting poorly to the second ball,” said Tinkler.
Tinkler and his technical team now switch their focus to Saturday’s showdown in Soweto against a 16th placed Maritzburg United side which lost 2-1 to SuperSport last Friday.
“There’s no easy games. Maritzburg are fighting for survival, and we have to be up for it. We know this is our first loss in quite a while, and there’s obviously disappointment from my side and the players’ side. But we need to bounce back as there’s not much time left – the season will soon be done and dusted, and we want to finish it on a positive note.”
