After serving out his two-match ban for the red card he received on match-day one of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Chad, Ogenyi Onazi has stated his readiness to enter the fray when Nigeria play Egypt tonight.
The 23-year old is eligible to feature against the Pharaohs and while it remains uncertain whether he will play, he has however told fcnaija he is ready if called upon by the coach.
“It is not really my decision to make whether I play or not, but I have served out my suspension so I am ready and fit to play,” he said.
“The coach has to decide who plays and who doesn’t and I don’t know if I will be one of those that will play but I am fit and ready and if the coach calls on me, then I will answer.”
The midfielder is one of the 25 players that travelled to Alexandria on Monday for the crucial game and while the Egyptians seem to have the advantage, he said all that matters is what they put out tonight.
“Well, whether they have the advantage or not doesn’t really matter to me because if we play well we will beat them and that is what matters, what we put out on the pitch.”
Following Chad’s withdrawal from the race, it now leaves Nigeria with two points while the Pharaohs have four points and a loss in Alexandria will see them missing out on the Africa Cup of Nations for the second time in a row.
