Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has dedicated his first goal of the season for Lazio to Nigeria.
The most populous country in Africa celebrates her 55th year after independence in 1960 and the 22-year-old marked the occasion with a goal for his Italian club as they triumph 3-2 over French side Saint-Étienne in the Europa League at the Stadio Olimpico.
Onazi equalized for Lazio after Mustapha Bayal Sall gave the away side the lead in the first half. The French boys were then reduced to nine-men following red cards to Robert Beric and Mustapha Bayal Sall and the home side extended their lead to 3-1 before a late strike from substitute Kevin Monnet-Paquet to end it 3-2.
The Super Eagles star wrote after the match on his official twitter handle: ‘Three points in the bag with one goal for my beloved Nigeria at 55. Thanks to our fans.’
Lazio are top of Group G with four points after the win while Saint-Étienne are third with just a point.
