Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh says his team isn’t yet ready for the forthcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The Super Eagles coach was speaking shortly after they played out a 1-1 draw against the Palancas Negras of Angola in a tune-up game in Pretoria, South Africa, on Wednesday, and while expressing satisfaction with his team’s display, posited however that they are still not fully ready for the competition.
“I’m happy with the way the boys played and they showed a lot of passion and determination but I don’t think we are ready yet,” said Oliseh.
The Super Eagles took the lead from the penalty spot through Bartholomew Ibenegebu in the 84th minute, but couldn’t hold on for much longer as the Palancas Negras equalized just four minutes later.
Oliseh, while admitting he must continue to work on the players’ fitness, however rued the absence of his strikers in the match.
“We didn’t play with strikers because they were injured, and we must keep working on their physical input, but the boys gave their best,” he added.
The Super Eagles play their opening match of the tournament against Les Mena of Niger on January 18 at the Stade Regional Nyamirambo in Kigali.
