The Kenya national team head coach Stanley Okumbi has called on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to plan for more friendly matches for the Harambee Stars to improve on the team’s performance.
The team played two friendly matches prior to the 2017 AFCON qualifier against Congo which the team won 2 – 1.
Having drawn with Tanzania and Sudan in friendly matches before the Congo game, the coach says the team could have posted better results against Guinea Bissau had the federation invested in similar preparations.
“I wish the same would have happened before we played Guinea Bissau because prior to the match, I had less than a day in training with some players unlike against Congo where I assessed my squad in two different games.
“In both friendly matches we came from a goal down, the players showed character on international duty and against Congo, we showed the same come back spirit which won us the game. More friendly matches will build confidence in our players,” stated Okumbi.
Kenya will finish up their qualification campaign with a match against Zambia in September.
