Nigerian international John Ogu is targeting a place in the group stage of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League with Israeli champions Hapoel Beer Sheva.
The 28-year-old was on target for Beer Sheva as they beat Moldovan Champions FC Sheriff Tiraspol 3-2 in the UEFA Champions League play-off on Tuesday night.
“It will be a great achievement for the club and the players to reach the group phase of the Champions League because it is the best club tournament in the world,” Ogu revealed.
The Nigerian who played for 90 minutes against FC Sheriff despite struggling with a knee injury is already looking forward to the return leg and happy with his recovery.
“I’m looking forward to the return leg in Moldova,” he said. “Still working on my fitness. Didn’t train much at our camp in Poland because of the pain on my knee but am getting better each day.”
Ogu and Nigerian compatriot Tony Nwakaeme will travel with Beer Sheva to Moldova for the second leg against Sheriff Tiraspol next week Tuesday.
