Kelechi Nwakali, the Nigeria U20 captain has said he would have loved to be listed among the players that would represent the country at the Olympic Games.
18-year old Nwakali and Nigeria U20 teammate Victor Osimhen were called to the Nigeria U23 team shortly after their exploits with the Nigeria U17 at last year’s U17 World Cup in Chile.
And while Osimhen went on to feature for the team at the Africa U23 Cup of Nations which he won with the team en route to qualifying for the Olympics, Nwakali was unavailable as he travelled to England to seal a move to Arsenal.
Speaking on the backdrop of the release of the provisional list of 35 players for the Olympics, the midfielder said he wished he was part of it.
“I would have loved to go to the Olympic Games,” he said.
“It is the dream of every player especially when you fall within the age bracket and it is not different with me.”
He however stated that he has no hard feelings for being ignored, as he wished the team well in Brazil.
“I don’t feel bad about it and I am not disappointed. I just have to focus on the U20 now and I wish them all the best at the Olympic Games,” he said.
