Arsenal have registered Nigeria U20 captain Kelechi Nwakali for the 2016/17 Premier League season, despite sending him out on loan to Dutch second division club, MVV Maastricht.
Also registered for the new season are six other players with Nigerian heritage and who are eligible to represent Nigeria, including Alex Iwobi, who is already a Nigeria international.
Nwakali completed his move to the Gunners last month from Nigerian academy side ASJ/Diamond, and has been sent on loan to Maastricht, where he is expected to be until the end of the season with the benefit of him playing regular first team football.
That notwithstanding, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has gone ahead to register him for the current Premier League season.
The other players with Nigerian heritage registered by the Gunners include Chuba Akpom, Aaron Eyoma, Tolaji Bola, Joseph Olowu, Tobi Omole and Alex Iwobi.
Iwobi is already established with the Arsenal first team, after being given his breakthrough last season, while Akpom is on the fringes, and was out on loan at Hull City last term.
The others on the list are however yet to make their first team debuts for the Gunners, but are expected to do so, with Wenger expected to give them their chances during the League Cup games.
