Kelechi Nwakali’s engagement with the Flying Eagles is the reason why he is yet to sign his professional contract with English giants Arsenal, after turning 18 two weeks ago, his older brother Allwell Nwakali says.
Nwakali to Complete Arsenal Move
The midfielder has agreed to join the Gunners with a professional contract due to be signed now that he has turned 18, but will have to wait until after playing for the Nigeria U20’s in their final round of qualifiers for the 2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
“Kelechi celebrated his 18th birthday this month and that means he will sign professional terms with Arsenal but that will have to be after his present engagement with the national team,” Allwell Nwakali said.
Nigeria play Sudan over two legs in the final round of qualifying for the U20 African championship next month and the older Nwakali also posited that his younger brother will leave for London immediately he is done with the games.
“He will travel to London after their games against Sudan to complete the deal but if he leaves now, he will be gone for between two to three weeks,” he added.
Kelechi Nwakali caught the eye of Arsenal and a host of other top clubs after emerging the most valuable player at last year’s FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile.
