Enyimba of Ab manager Kadiri Ikhana says his side remain in strong contention for the Globacom Nigeria Premier League title race despite last Sunday’s defeat in the Oriental derby at Owerri.
Enyimba’s chase for an unprecedented seventh league crown was on Sunday slowed down following a 2-1 defeat to Heartland in Owerri.
But the Peoples’ Elephant head coach in a chat with 366football.com believes the defeat has not in any way scuppered their strong push for their first league title in five years.
“The defeat in Owerri was very painful. We didn’t bargain for it but that’s how the game goes, you win some and lose some.
“We still have six matches to go so i believe we can still make it. Three on the road and three at home. I optimistic that we will get a win in one of the away matches.
“The team did not settle to play their game but rather were too much in a hurry. The minus we got from the defense also affected our game plan.” The Enyimba boss told 366football.com
Second placed Warri Wolves closed the gap on Enyimba to just three points following a 3-0 victory over Sunshine Stars in Warri on Saturday with Gbolahan Salami netting a hat-trick.
