The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has been charged to move swiftly to overhaul the current set-up in the state-owned Premier League club, Lobi Stars in order to take the club to the height it truly deserves to be.
Making this fresh charge for change is the Chairman of De Elite Sports Group Terseer Taakper who was one of the dignitaries present at the recently held 2015 Federation Cup final in Lagos.
Lobi Stars despite being favourites were humbled 2-1 in the final by Akwa United and for Mr. Taakper it was high-time the governor steps in to effect the changes needed to take ‘The Pride of Benue’ to the next level.
“It is rather unfortunate; it just shows that Lobi Stars need a total overhaul which translates to changing the whole management of that team.” Mr. Taakper told 366football.com in Lagos after watching Lobi’s largely disappointing display.
Lobi needs new hands
De Elite Sports Group boss posited that except the bull is taken by the horn and drastic steps are taken to revamp the fortunes of Lobi Stars, the huge funds pumped year in year out will continue to go down the drain with very little to show for it.
“If you are afraid of change you cannot move forward but when you take the bull by the horn, you have a future, a total overhaul of the team and management is just inevitable; bring in new crop of players and capable hands to stir the affairs of the club, you see them blend together and in no time you will be seeing a great Lobi Stars”. Mr. Taakper posited.
When queried on why he (Mr. Taakper) has not offered assistance to Lobi Stars judging by the fact that he has a fledging sports outfit that has produced players-some of whom have travelled overseas to ply their trade, De Elite Sports Group boss said politics mixed with football is the major cause.
“Unfortunately, politics have come to play in football which is not meant to be. I have approached the past government to give me an opportunity to improve that team as I have been doing well in my own private capacity. I think this is the right time for the new government to take decision on this matter because Lobi has to move forward”
“One tree cannot make a forest and in football, it is more of team play, you cannot say you have the monopoly about everything about football” Mr. Taakper concluded.
It should be noted in the last 14 years, Lobi Stars have only one trophy to show for their efforts, the team barely escaped relegation this season before losing in the final of the 2015 Federation Cup
