After five years playing in the lower ranks, Plateau United celebrated their return to the top flight of Nigeria League football with a hard-earned 2-1 win over Niger Tornadoes at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos on Saturday.
Plateau United hit the ground running with the blast of the whistle and the registered the first real chance of the day inside the 3rd minute of the encounter.
Plateau United continued piling pressure on Tornadoes and their effort paid off in the 15th minute when Charles Okafor headed the hosts in front from Bala’s corner kick.
That goal saw Tornadoes switch away from their earlier defensive approach as they were desperate for a quick equaliser.
The equaliser did not come for the visitors at least till the end of the first half but they did not stop as they kept taking a go at the hosts in the second half.
After series of misses and near misses, Tornadoes finally got a deserved equaliser just after the hour-mark and it was Kunle Isa that got the much-sought after leveller.
Both sides gave a fierce attempt to get a winning goal and it was Plateau United that got that with barely five minutes left on the regulation clock.
