The wait for a win in the ongoing NPFL season has finally ended for Heartland FC of Owerri as they piped Lobi Stars 1-0 in their Match Day 5 contest at the Dan Anyiam Stadium.
Before Sunday’s game, the Naze Millionaires have managed just draws in their first two home games of the season but Fortune Omoniwari changed that trend as he scored the only goal that earned Owerri-based team their first win of the five-week-old Nigeria league
With their first win, Heartland now have five points from as many games, while Lobi have nine points from five matches.
Omoniwari scored the only goal of the game, which was the first by a Heartland player at home this season, in the 40th minute.
Heartland could have enjoyed a bigger win on Sunday but their striker Bright Ejike missed with a free header from close range.
That nonetheless, Coach Alphonsus Dike will be happy he won his first home game after being hired as replacement for ertshwhile Technical Adviser, Bethel Orji
