Niger Tornadoes striker, Ismaila Gata has gone top of the goals scorers chart in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after hitting in a brace in his team’s 2-0 win over ‘whipping boys’ Ikorodu United in a Week 12 game on Sunday in Lokoja.
The brace from Gata has increased his total goals haul for the season to seven even as the player hopes to score more goals that would first assure his team does not go down back to NNL and then see them finish well on the final league standings.
The race for who finishes as Nigeria League goal king is quite close at the moment as Gata has the trio of Lobi Stars’ Tony Okpotu Ibrahim Mustapha (Wikki Tourists) and Chisom Egbuchulam from Enugu Rangers all breathing down his neck with six goals each.
In Sunday’s outing, Gata opened the scoring in the seventh minute, when he converted a spot kick after an Ikorodu United defender handled the ball in the vital area. He completed a brace after half an hour of action.
