Abia Warriors are closing-in on top spot on the Nigeria Professional Football League table after they recorded a 2-0 win over Lobi Stars in their delayed Match Day 11 tie on Monday at the Umuahia.
Goals from Godwin Effiong and Ndfireke Effiong helped the Umuahia-based side to a deserved victory which has now helped them move to second on the log with 20 points from 10 matches while Lobi Stars are ninth with 15 points from 11 matches.
Before the match was halted on Sunday, Abia Warriors were already enjoying a 1-0 lead courtesy of Godwin’s early strike.
The hosts started the game more purposeful of the two sides and got the second goal in the 49th minute through Ndifreke who nodded the ball home from close range.
Both sides pressed to score in the remaining 41 minutes but their efforts failed to provide the needed result
Going by the outcome of Monday’s delayed contest, Abia Warriors have now gone 10 games without a defeat in the ongoing 2015/16 NPFL season.
