Putting behind the disappointments of last weekend and fighting for crucial eraly points will top on the minds of the likes of Enugu Rangers, Giwa FC and the likes as the NPFL will have it Match Day 2 games this Wednesday.
As stated by the League Management Company (LMC) only seven matches will be played on Wednesday as three others involving teams competing on the continent have been moved to a yet-to-be-decided date.
RANGERS vs PLATEAU UNITED
Having fluffed the chance of starting their season on a blistering not with an away win in Kano against Pillars, Enugu Rangers will want to avoid mistakes against newly promoted Plateau United.
While the Plateau team are by no means, push overs, the Flying Antelopes will have to be at their best this weekend if they are to rejuvenate their hopes of breaking a three decades-old trophy-less jinx.
Warri Wolves Vs Kano Pillars
After their last-gasp win in the opening day of the season against Enugu Rangers, Kano Pillars have another stern test before them as they battle Warri Wolves at the Warri City Stadium.
Wolves despite the mass exodus that hit them in the off season started this term quite impressively as they went to Owerri and forced out a barren draw against Heartland FC.
It was gathered that Wolves travelled with just 14 players but that nonetheless they were able to leave Owerri unscathed. It is now expected that Peter Neketem will be able to build on the away point secured on the opening day
MFM FC Vs Rivers United
Still basking in the euphoria of securing a rare away win over Nasarawa United last weekend, the Prayer Boys have the burden of expectation on them as they take on Rivers United who also started the season quite well with a lone goal win over defending champions, Enyimba.
Not famous for away wins, Rivers United should not be a hard nut to crack in as much as the Olukoya Boys keep head up, they will be able to garner maximum points.
WIKKI TOURISTS vs HEARTLAND FC
Wikki were one of the four teams that picked three points on the road last weekend, they defeated El-Kanemi and now welcome Heartland to Bauchi. It will not be easy for the Naze Millionaires who were held goalless by Warri Wolves last match day, but you cannot write them off just immediately.
Interestingly, both Heartland and Wikki have a knack for good start to the season, picking points at home and away in the early stages and later lost weight when the going gets tough. It will be a slim chance for Heartland FC against Abdul Maikaba’s lads; though a draw is likely.
ABIA WARRIORS vs EL-KANEMI
Coach Ladan Bosso is set for an early visit Umuahia were he was formerly in charge of Abia Warriors. Bosso sure will want to prove a point with his former employers and the hunger for match points will be more as he has not started the league on a bright note (El-Kanemi lost at home to Wikki). That said, it might be somewhat difficult for Bosso to prove a point against his former squad now under the tutelage of Kennedy Boboye.
Abia Warriors still have in their Arsenal the likes of Simon Sakin, Ndifreke Effiong, Chisom Chikatara, Austin Obarakpo, etc; these lads are a force to reckon with.
However as Bosso will be playing in a familiar terrain, he may just steal a point some suggest.
NIGER TORNADOES vs GIWA FC
Niger Tornadoes and Giwa FC will be fighting to get their first set of point(s) this season when both teams tango in of the midweek games on offer.
Despite a brave fight, Tornadoes returned from Jos empty handed and it was worse for Giwa FC whose invincibility in Jos was ruptured by big spenders Ifeanyi Ubah FC who piped them 1-0 last Sunday.
With Tornadoes adopting Lokoja as their home ground, Giwa may fancy their chances in that tie even though they have lost a couple of their trusted legs in the off-season.
