The Rwanda national team had a good CECAFA Senior Challenge tournament which came to the end on Saturday 5 December at6 the Addis Ababa Stadium and though the Amavubi Stars did not win, the team’s skipper Haruna Niyonzima has positives to take home.
He says the expectation for his team was only to go up to the semi finals but termed it a bit of a setback that after reaching the final they could not win it as they went down 0 – 1 at the hands of Uganda Cranes.
He believes there are a lot of good lessons for the team to pick from the tournament, heading to the African Nations Championships (CHAN) though he will not be part of it as he is a foreign based player.
“We expected to go up to the semi final in this tournament and so we are thankful for the far we reached. It was a good tournament for us even though we fell short in the final. That is part of the game and we take positives back home.
“Now we have the future to look up to; Rwanda will be hosting the CHAN competition and I am confident that the team has learned a lot from this competition as part of their preparations. I will not be eligible but I wish them all the best,” he noted.
