Arsenal have named only the duo of Alex Iwobi and Chuba Akpom in their Champions League squad for the first round of the season, while the likes of Kelechi Nwakali, Aaron Eyoma, Tolaji Bola, Joseph Olowu and Tobi Omole – all eligible to represent Nigeria – have been left out.
All seven players have been registered by the Gunners in their Premier League squad for the season, but only Iwobi and Akpom have been selected for their Champions League squad.
Nwakali has already been sent out on loan to Dutch second division club MVV Maastricht, after signing a five-year contract last month, while the quintet of Akpom, Eyoma, Bola, Olowu and Omole are still on the fringes of the first team but are expected to play some part during the season.
Arsenal are grouped in group A of the Champions League, alongside Paris Saint-Germain, Basel and Ludogorets Razgrad.
Meanwhile, former Nigeria and Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu scored a hat-trick in a novelty match against AC Milan.
The former Nigeria captain scored thrice for the Gunners’ legends as they beat AC Milan legends 4-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
