The Dream Team VI of Nigeria set an unofficial record at the just concluded football event of the Rio Olympics event when they out played Honduras in the first half of the Bronze medal match with a possession of 94% agaiinst just 6% for the CONCACAF representative.
Nigeria lost the semifinal tie 2-0 against European giants Germany while Honduras ended their cinderella run with a 6-0 deefeat in the hands of hosts Brazil.
The Dream Team VI carried out their frustrations on the CONCACAF team by scoring three goals within 57 minutes courtesy Aminu Umar and a brace from Roma forward Sadiq Umar. The first half finished with the Dream Team VI having 94% of the possession which is a footballing record in itslef (unofficial).
However, Honduras did not go down without a fight as they scored twice through Antonio Pereira and Rubén Lozano to ensure for a nervy finish.
The match ended 3-2 in favour for the Mikel Obi Captained Dream Team and it was a spectacle that left the fans cheering all the way. The final possession table showed Honduras 44% – 56% Nigeria.
Nigeria has now won the Gold, Silver, and Bronze of the men’s football event at the Olympics.
