The Nigeria U17 team, the Golden Eaglets had a dream start as they kicked off their FIFA U17 World Cup title defence bid on a winning note; beating the United States 2-0 on Saturday night in Santiago, Chile.
Though the Eaglets are rated over and above the Americans, they initially did not find things easy against them as the first half of the opening Group A game failed to produce any goal for both sides.
However, the Coach Emmanuel Amuneke tutored side who are hoping for a fifth World Cup triumph got the breakthrough they deserved five minutes into the second half through Chukwudi Agor.
Agor who was well positioned fired in the ball after a poor clearance by the American defenders; to score Nigeria’s first goal in the 2015 edition of FIFA U17 World Cup.
The Eaglets just after the hour-mark doubled their lead and this time it was through their star striker Victor Osimhen.
USA’s bad night turned worse as they ended the game with 10-men after a straight red card was given to Trusty in the 87th minute after his rash challenge on Osimhen.
Though they started with a win, the Eaglets will need to do more in their next game which is against hosts Chile on Tuesday. On their part, USA will be hoping to bounce back from the opening day defeat as they take on Croatia also on Tuesday.
