There were wins for Royal Eagles, Highlands Park and Vasco da Gama following Saturday afternoon’s National First Division action.
Thanda Royal Zulu 1-3 Royal Eagles
Two goals by Siyanda Ngubo gave the team from Durban a 2-0 half time lead, the first coming via a 10th minute penalty before he added a second on 33 minutes. Selwyn George made it 3-0 when he netted four minutes after the break, Thanda;s goal merely consolation as Sduduzo Dlamini struck in the 91st minute.
Vasco da Gama 1-0 African Warriors
It was a much needed win for Vasco, the three points taking the Cape side seven points clear of the drop zone in what has coach Keenin Lesch’s first game since returning to the helm. In a tight game at Parow Park, former Ajax Cape Town and Milano United striker Alcaardo van Graan proved to be the difference when he thundered in a powerful drive on 72 minutes.
Highlands Park 1-0 Cape Town All Stars
It was the Gugulethu-based team who had the more frequent chances in the match at the Makhulong Stadium, but the Highlands Park keeper kept the likes of Ranga Chivaviro and Thokozani Sekhotlong off the score-sheet.
A 93rd minute goalmouth scramble secured all three points for the hosts, the goal being credited as an own goal by Stars keeper Ludwe Mpakumpaku. The win lifts the Gauteng club above Stars and into third spot on the NFD table.
