Major League Soccer (MLS) side New York City has been making overtures at Kenyan international winger Ayub Timbe Masika with the 23-year-old’s contract with his parent club, KRC Genk set to expire in mid-2017.
KRC Genk has set the player free to sign up with any other club after his two year loan deal at Belgian Second Division side Lierse SK ran out at the end of the 2015/16 season.
According to Belgian portal, Voetbalkrant, New York City, where former English international Frank Lampard plays, has stated interest in the player who scored seven goals in 22 league appearances as Lierse finished seventh in the Belgian second tier.
“Genk indeed stated that Ayub Masika should look for a new club. The Kenyan winger is until mid 2017 (with option for two additional years) under contract with the team,” a statement on the site stated.
Apart from New York City which is coached by former Arsenal skipper Patrick Vieira, Belgian side Westerloo has also shown interest in the player with Lierse expressing the desire to sign him on permanent basis.
