Kakamega Homeboyz is out of the GOtv Shield contention and head coach Mike Mururi has accepted his team’s fate following the match against AFC Leopards on Sunday 31 July at the Mumias Sports Complex which his team lost 0 – 2.
Yusuf Suf and John Ndirangu got the goals for Leopards to condemn the hosts to yet another loss at the hands of the KPL giants and the coach could only blame his defenders for not living up to the challenge and allowing Ingwe too much space on the flanks.
The coach was particularly mad at his players’ performance in the first half, both Leopards goals having come in the period.
“I am okay with the result; I think the result reflects the true state of the game. The referee was good, I can’t complain. We are out of the competition and we have ourselves to blame especially after a sluggish first half where we allowed them too much space in the flanks and this is something we had spoken of in training. They hit us with balls from the flanks and I think defensively we were not up to the task,” he said.
He will be hoping for better spoils when he leads his team out again in midweek and having rested a number of key players, he will want to see a more positive approach.
“We have tight fixtures coming up; there are midweek KPL matches on Wednesday and so we decided to rest a number of key players, like four or five first team players and at the same time give the chance to others who rarely get this chance,” he added.
