Eric Bailly has arrived England to have a medical at Manchester United on ahead of his £30million transfer from Villarreal, according to the Daily Mail.
The clubs have agreed a fee for the 22-year-old Ivory Coast international and he has arrived in Manchester to complete the finer details of his move.
His representatives expect the deal to be finalised by Friday.
Bailly will become the first signing of Jose Mourinho’s reign as Manchester United manager and is regarded as one of the best up-and-coming defenders in Spain.
Villarreal have not stood in his way as they knew United were willing to give them a substantial profit on the £4.4m they paid to Espanyol in January 2015.
They hope to clear £25m profit from the deal after paying Espanyol a sell-on fee.
Bailly has been watched by Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Manchester City for the past two years.
Although still raw, he is physical, fast and powerful. He has been uncompromising in some of his tackling and prone to the odd mistake as he tries to bring the ball out of defence but United recognise enough potential to commit to the considerable fee.
Mourinho wants to improve United’s physical qualities and is adding through the spine of the team.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic remains a target, as does Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic.
