Former Inter Milan forward Diego Milito has revealed that new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho cannot succeed unless he makes enemies.
The Argentine played a key part in Mourinho’s treble-winning Inter side of 2009/10, scoring both goals in the 2-0 Champions League final win over Bayern Munich.
The former Real Madrid and Porto boss has not quite enjoyed the same level of success since that memorable campaign, but now finds himself at Manchester United after spells with Real Madrid and Chelsea.
‘Sometimes he invents (enemies) himself on purpose,’ the 37-year-old is quoted in Gazzetta dello Sport. ‘Guardiola included, just go and ask Pep.
‘Mourinho is a great leader of groups, we are talking about a coach of the highest level in the world. He makes sure that every player gives 100 per cent, has the right word at the right moment and can be punishing when necessary.
‘He knows how to protect his team and always needs an enemy to be able to attack or defend his squad.’
Mourinho will play his first match as Manchester United’s gaffer next week when he leads the side out in a preseason friendly against Wigan.
