Jose Mourinho has shown where his heart is at the moment when he refused to sign a Chelsea shirt during the club’s ongoing pre-season tour of China.
The former Chelsea boss was signing jerseys by fans who thronged the Shanghai Stadium to catch a glimpse of the players as United trained ahead of their test game against Borussia Dortmund today, when a fan presented a Chelsea jersey for him to sign.
When he saw the jersey, he shook his head as he ignored it and moved to the next fan who wanted his United jersey signed, with a club official quickly moving forward to move the fans with the club’s merchandise to the front of the queue.
The Portuguese was fired by Chelsea last December and while it is believed he has no ill-feelings toward the club following the sacking, Mourinho obviously didn’t want any link to his immediate past.
And the new United boss has made it known he would still be at Stamford Bridge if he was still wanted there.
“I’m not at Chelsea because the owners didn’t want me. If he (Roman Abramovich) wanted me I would still be there,” Mourinho said.
“I have the contract I have and for that the owners are happy. To give me a new contract I will be happy to do that because that is what I want at this moment in my career, but I think it depends on many things.
“I will try to do my work to make the owners realise that I am the right guy for this job.”
