Mamelodi Sundowns were impressive in their 3-1 victory against defending Telkom KO champions SuperSport United on Saturday night.
The goals were scored by new signing Leonardo Castro, Thabo Nthethe and highly rated young Bafana Bafana international Bongani Zungu for the Brazilians.
Brazilians coach Pitso Mosimane is in high spirits, as you’d expect with his side also in good form in the PSL.
“It was a little bit tight to be honest at he beginning. I was a little bit worried with Dove because he was coming there in front of my two centre-backs as a number ten and not playing as a winger and we had a little bit of problems because they had two number tens at that time, who to stop?” said Mosimane to the media in South Africa.
“But once you keep Brockie quiet because he makes his moves on the sides, lateral movements. I must tell you, we have a Brockie movie at the club, they laugh at it, we have a ‘broken’ movie just to trace his runs because he hides behind the right centre-back and the left centre-back.
“And if you close also the source so that you don’t allow the ball to go to Brockie on the diagonal … he almost got away at the end.
“But look, we controlled the midfield. I think Bongani Zungu is special, he’s out of this place [out of this world], him and Kekana’s combination is very strong and it makes it difficult for us to play even Teko who is a special player on the ball, but you need to get the midfield tight.
“Keagan is maturing, Khama is there, we had the speed obviously because we know Boxall struggles with one-on-ones and we had to take the balls more to Keagan on the left side and that’s where the damage came from.
“Ja, normally a local derby … but what a performance from my boys, what a performance, I must tell you, what a performance, and three goals, unbelievable.”
Sundowns could’ve scored more if it wasn’t for the two more goals they scored that were disallowed by the referee.
“We don’t have to boast too much, I’m happy with the three that we got, and three is enough, I know there were a lot of chances, and they also had chances, Thuso could have made it 3-2 there at the end … they’ve got a good team but we were quick on them on the breaks at the back,” said Mosimane.
