Farouk Miya, the youthful Uganda Cranes skipper had a great tournament at the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge and led the team to bag its 14th league title in Addis Ababa Ethiopia on Saturday 5 December.
Uganda beat Rwanda 1 – 0 in the final to bag the title and Miya, speaking afterwards, noted that the win was well deserved since Uganda was the best team at the tournament.
His team started the tournament with a loss to Kenya but has since grown in strength and he is elated at how it all ended to see him win the first CECAFA title on his first appearance.
He however called on his team mates not to relax as the team now shifts focus on the African Nations Championships (CHAN), African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
“We were the best team at the tournament and I believe we deserved to win the title. Though we did not have the best of starts, losing to Kenya, we grew well in strength and after that we said we will play all matches like a final and that is exactly what we did though I have to admit it was not easy.
“This is my first time to play in the CECAFA Senior Challenge and I am happy that I led my team to win the title and I thank God for it. Now as a team we need to ensure that we build from this win; we cannot afford to relax now,” he said.
