AFC Leopards head coach Ivan Minnaert has managed to stabilize the team, this coming after leading his charges to overcome Kakamega Homeboyz in the second round of the GOtv Shield tournament with a 2 – 0 win at the Mumias Sports Complex on Sunday 31 July.
The team has had a good run in recent weeks, picking seven out of nine points in their last three league matches and after the cup win the Belgian coach admits the good run is down to the confidence in the team.
“We have been working for this all along and we are now gaining from it slowly. You know you cannot lay a strategy and see change on the first day. Today we saw players confident with the ball and we did not play a very defensive team – we had two offensive midfielders, which worked well for us.
“When there is confidence among the players it becomes easy to coach the players. This is the kind of football that I wanted all along. We are very serious with the GOtv Shield and we want to make this count.
“We needed to start with our surest team because you know the GOtv Shield is one of the tournament we are looking at very seriously to win, given we are a bit far in the league. It is out main objective and we know we have a few more games to play and make our targets real,” he said.
