John Obi Mikel has thanked interim Super Eagles coach John Obi Mikel for making him the captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The 28-year old was named the new Nigeria captain during a press conference ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Pharaohs of Egypt and while speaking on his new role, he was full of praise for Siasia, while also commending former captain Ahmed Musa for relinquishing his role without any fuss.
“I have to thank the coach for giving me this opportunity to serve my country and I promise I will not let the people down.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity. We have come a long way, me and the coach and I know exactly what he demands from me as a player and also what he will demand from me now as the leader of this team.
“I want to promise you that I will not let this team down and I will lead to the best of my ability starting from the game against Egypt tomorrow.
“I also thank Ahmed Musa for showing such professionalism and being a wonderful professional. It takes a man to come out and do what he has done and I commend him for that,” he added.
Meanwhile, Musa will now serve as the vice captain of the team henceforth.
