Argentine star Lionel Messi will not be in the team when his nation travels to Venezuela to take on the hosts in the Tuesday 6 September 2018 World Cup qualifier.
Messi will sit out of the clash after picking a groin injury on his return to international action, in the game against Uruguay on Friday 2 September.
He scored the lone goal in the game as Argentina beat Uruguay 1 – 0 to go top of the standings on 14 points after seven matches.
The Argentina star had complained of pain in his groin and the manager Edgardo Bauza has confirmed that the player will not be taking part in the match.
“He won’t be able to play. We can’t take any risks. We must take care of him,” the coach stated.
A top-four finish will secure automatic qualification for Russia 2018, with the fifth-placed side facing a two-legged play-off against a team from Oceania – New Zealand, New Caledonia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands or Tahiti.
