After a disappointing outing in the Copa America final the last time, as his team fell to Chile in Santiago, Argentina skipper Lionel Messi is hoping the 2016 edition will come with better spoils.
Messi reveals Copa Dream
Argentina fell at the last hurdle as Chile lifted the title in 2015 and Messi has revealed that he wants to win it with Argentina and has termed the tournament in the USA as a very special tournament.
Messi is a doubt for Argentina’s first match of the competition, against Chile on Tuesday 7 June after picking a back injury in preparations for the tournament but he has assured Argentine fans that he will be okay for the match.
“This Copa America is a very special tournament for me and more so after losing last year’s final. That is why I want to win it for Argentina. I feel better,” Messi told El Mundo Deportivo.
Messi will also be keen to help Argentina avoid a repeat of the 2014 FIFA World Cup when the team was beaten in the final by Germany.
Argentina has gone 23 years without winning a major trophy.
