Gor Mahia striker Meddie Kagere has been voted the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) Fans Player of the Month – September.
The Ugandan-born Rwandese amassed a total of 1689 votes in a ten-day poll to beat AFC Leopards Lamine Diallo (431 votes), Nakuru AllStars youngster Boniface Akenga (118 votes, Ulinzi Stars custodian Francis Ochieng (59 votes) and Chemelil Sugar FC striker Meshack Karani (39 votes).
The soft-spoken player thanked his teammates and the fans that voted, pointing out that he wasn’t expecting to win the award since he’s a foreign player.
“I thank God for this award though I wasn’t really hoping to win it. As a foreign player who have to work harder and that is what I have been doing,” Kagere said shortly after he was presented with the award.
“I’m a very ambitious man and I always focus on the future. Better things are on the way for me. I joined Gor from a European team because I wanted to learn more. The SPL is tough and you have to work harder since it’s very physical,”
“Awards open doors for players and I urge the rest to continue pushing and all will be well,” he concluded.
Kagere is fifth winner of the accolade with Paul Kiongera, Jacob Keli, Victor Ali Abondo and Bernard Mangoli having won it in the past.
