Rwanda national team head coach Johnny McKinstry heaped praises over his charges after they held their own to dump holders Kenya out of the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge in the quarter final clash staged at the Addis Ababa Stadium on Tuesday 1 November.
The Northern Irishman lauded his comparatively younger squad after managing a barren draw in regular time then going on to win 5 – 3 on post match penalties and he will be heading to the semi finals in confidence.
“Penalties could go either way and we are happy that it was us who made it through. We had a young team and it was impressive how they managed to handle today’s game. We played well against a much stronger opponent,” he said.
He will be lining his charges against the 2013 CECAFA Senior Challenge finalists Sudan and he admits it will be a tricky encounter.
“I have followed them for some time now and they are a tricky team. They rarely concede in their matches and it will be very difficult against them considering how they have played in the competition,” he added.
Rwanda has previously won the CECAFA title once – in 1999 on home soil.
