Liverpool youngster Jon Flanagan has earned a new contract at the Reds, and the club’s legend in that position Jason McAteer has come out and praised him.
Flanagan recently returned from a long term injury and wasn’t selected in the Europa League squad. Jurgen Klopp has felt his absence and quickly moved to secure the right back.
“Flanagan’s injury ruled him out at the time, but he’s done remarkably well to come back and impressed with the standard that he’s showed for a month when he’s been back. It’s always been an exciting position for Liverpool. Jurgen (Klopp) is also very attack minded at full back,” McAteer told Goal.com
Other optios at right back include Nathaniel Clyne who gave away a penalty in Liverpool’s last game against Manchester United.
“Clyne and Flanagan are fighting for that position, I think Flanno needs to get the season out of the way and get a full pre-season, then come back next season where he should really push for the full back position,” said McAteer.
Flanagan will be in contention for Sunday’s trip to Southampton.
