Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has reiterated the importance of countries participating in the COSAFA Cup.
Speaking to the Namibia Broadcasting Cooperation (NBC), Mashaba emphasized on matters pertaining to the Southern African region.
“We cannot expect to win the continental showpiece if you cannot prove your worth within your own region. I want to be very honest, we as South Africans have to prioritize the COSAFA senior tournament.
Our Association (SAFA) is working on what we call Vision 2022, and one of the stepping-stones to achieving that vision is the COSAFA Cup.
We have brought a young squad of exciting players and we understand that to reach our target will not be easy but it is possible,” said Mashaba.
Bafana Bafana will hold their first training session this afternoon (Thursday, 16 June) in Windhoek, Namibia ahead of their quarterfinal match, which will take place on Saturday at the famous Sam Nujoma Stadium in Katutura.
South Africa will face either Lesotho or Malawi.
Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm(SA time).
