Argentine star Lionel Messi will be fit enough to feature against Panama in the team’s second match of the ongoing Copa America tournament, the coach, Gerardo Martino has stated.
Messi picked an injury in a friendly match against Honduras in preparation for the tournament in the USA and has been a doubt since.
He sat out Argentina’s 2 – 1 win over Chile on Tuesday 7 June, as the Albiceleste won courtesy of goals from Angel Di Maria and Ever Banega but the coach has confirmed the Barcelona star is improving well.
“Everything has to do with [Messi] being healthy, in a good condition to play the next game,” Martino said with the help of a translator.
“He had a very hard blow versus Honduras. After the trip he started working in Barcelona. He was working in the physical aspect a lot. He continued working here. He is kicking the ball better now. We expect that in four days he will be in condition to play. We’re thinking that he will recover by then.” He said.
After Panama, Argentina will take on Bolivia in their last match of the group as they look to go one better following their loss to Chile in the final last year.
