Manchester City have been dealt a major blow as their prolific forward Sergio Aguero was taken off on a stretcher during Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Ecuador after injuring a hamstring.
Argentina slumped to a shock home defeat against Ecuador, while Brazil were beaten 2-0 by Chile on Thursday as upsets dominated the opening round of South America’s qualifying campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia
Aguero who netted five times against Newcastle last weekend pulled up holding his left leg after 22 minutes into the encounter at Buenos Aires.
The EPL leaders in a statement on its website confirmed the injury, saying Aguero “pulled up holding his left hamstring while chasing a long ball downfield.”
Aguero, who has suffered several hamstring injuries during his time in the Premier League, will now have a scan to determine the severity of his latest problem.
